Most amazing baseball feat.

The most amazing play I've seen in person was Ryan Freel's diving catch of an Albert Pujols bomb late in the 2006 season. Does anyone remember this catch? The Reds faded that season and the Cards won the division and later the World Series, but that catch at the base of the warning track was one of the more remarkable plays I've EVER seen. It happened right in front of me, and I still have no idea whatsoever how he got to that ball.

That ball Canseco hit into the upper deck in Toronto during the ALCS (don't recall the year) was just an unbelievable moon shot. I've never seen another one hit like that that I recall or sticks in my memory.

I remember that. I was in awe. I'd never seen anything like it.

I'd forgotten about that Gibson grab and the Mitchell barehanded grab. Nice stuff.

But for me, as much as I loved Concepcion...the best play I've ever seen is the number 1 on this video. Smith.

I couldn't find the Freel grab that robbed Pujols, but I found what I thought was his BEST catch. #2 on this list.

In the mid nineties at Riverfront, I witnessed a Pirates' outfield collision between the center fielder and left fielder that caused the ball to squirt up on the air just enough for the right fielder to pluck it out with the very tips of his fingers at a full sprint. I don't remember any details as far as who it was, but I can assume Andy van Slyke and Barry Bonds were involved.

I'm not sure if you'd call it a "feat", but Diamondback comeback against Mariano Rivera in Game 7 of the World Series in 2001 was pretty crazy and memorable.

And it sure seems like Freel, for a guy that got so much hate directed his way, did a lot of amazing things. I don't think I'll ever see a player steal 5 bases in a game again. Not at the MLB level.

I'm trying to remember the year, but once I saw Deion Sanders score from first on a routine single to LF. And I think he scored standing up.

When he wanted to, he could turn on the afterburners. So when the ball was hit, he went full-out and just didn't stop.

I don't have the money to go to a lot of baseball games so my live experience is limited. That is why I include TV into the discussion. Plus, if you limit it to just in person, basically you are mostly going to see home games.

the game where Junior hit the inside the park walkoff home run over the Cards. But its not limited to just that play, Pujols hit a ball over the black monster, or whatever we called that short lived super high OF wall/batters eye in CF while the current park was being built. I think it was the first homer hit over that thing, I remember talking to my buddy before the game, or early on I suppose if anyone would ever hit a home run directly over. My thought was that most bombs were pulled down the lines, while homers to direct CF were ususally more on a rope. Pujols proved me wrong, as did a handful of other people in the 2(?) seasons that wall was erected prior to moving into the new digs. That game also had a 9th inning backup catcher (kelly stinett?) homerun to tie the ball game and send it to extras, it had a collision at 2b that may (or many not) have knocked fernando Vina out of the game. As a Reds fan, I don't know that you could provide a more entertaining mid May game than that one.

On TV: well it was on highlights anyways, may have even been a ST game, I can't recall for sure, but the Randy Johnson pitch that hit the bird as it swooped across the diamond. Seriously, what are the odds of that happening? Even more so on a Randy Johnson heater?
