It's sad in that the human condition allows someone with so much talent, someone who achieved so much success, to succumb to what was most likely a drug problem. Personally, I have no sympathy for someone who throws away a lifetime's worth of hard work (developing a singing voice like that is hard, hard work) because of a drug addiction.

This is truly sad. Whitney Houston is one of the rare instances where her talent matched her stardom. She might be the greatest female vocalist in the history of popular music.

Crazy to think she might have had money issues. She had to have made $50-100 million, in her career, at a minimum, and I'm guessing I'm undershooting the real number.

Truly sad. She was a phenomenal talent that essentially threw everything away by getting involved with drugs. Such a waste.

I don't know if she started doing drugs before or after meeting Bobby Brown, but I remember seeing an interview a few years after they got married and thinking, "that woman has become a whole bucket full of crazy."

You don't know what you got until it's gone. At the peak of her career, Whitney Houston's voice was Ty Cobb's tenacity, Babe Ruth's pinache and Hank Aaron's power all wrapped up in a candy foil. At one time this woman ruled the world.

And now, all is lost. It is exasperating. So sad.
Whitney was lost long ago, friend. Saying that we lost her today is like saying we missed out on a bunch of things to come from Marlon Brando when he died.

It was a great voice. Was, a long time ago. And that's true dead or alive.

The Illuminati post is comical if nothing else for stating she hadn't been under the influence the past few weeks. That's the joke of the thread.

Sad, tragic, devastating. Drugs get hold and won't let go.

Don't be silly. It was obviously the Pentavirate that did it.

I know reasonable people can disagree, but you're really putting Whitney Houston in the same class as Aretha or Billie Holiday?

Week before last I was talking to a kid about how talentless many of the "artists" being played on the radio were (I know, but Lil Wayne does this to me) when he played some old Whitney Houston. I said something about how talented she used to be and he insisted that she still was a great singer. I didn't push it; he was a kid. I just mentioned that once she was one of the best.

Now this, on the eve of the Grammys. I hope the timing is coincidental.

Bobby Brown and Bob Boone, same first name, same initials. Coincidence? I think not,

That national anthem is so amazing. It's one of the hardest songs to sing, and it's almost like she's mocking it as she goes through it (mocking the challenge, not the sentiment), she's just so relaxed and confident and just singing it so perfectly.

    Sad.
