A massive fire has swept through a jail in Honduras, killing at least 272 prisoners, officials say.Many of the victims were burned or suffocated to death in their cells at the jail in Comayagua, in central Honduras.
correct me if I am wrong, but doesnt Honduras consider you guilty until proven innocent? I know several nations are like that in that area of the world, just wondering how many "innocent" people were truly killed? not saying their life is worth more than a guilty person but its something to think about....
I think Guam is an area where your guilty until proven otherwise and if your not found innocent in 3 years then your killed....now, that is for the more harsh crimes like murder and armed robbery but still silly if you ask me...I know that is off topic..sorry..
would anyone feel bad if all the prisoners killed were child molesters and rapists and killers? not trying to start an argument but just wondering cause in some parts of that area of the country you are killed anyhow for doing those crimes...
Sadly, a lot of events like this in third world countries get swept under the radar in our current news cycle. RIP to all of them, regardless of the crimes they may have committed.
I spent two weeks in Honduras in 2003. It was the craziest experience of my life. The capital Tegucigalpa (spelling?) is a mountain valley, and 95% of the city is an uninterupted slum. Countries like Honduras do not have the finances nor the infrastructure to deal with disasters like this. The entire country is very backwards as is most of Central and South America. That said, I am deeply saddened by this news. Despite the leadership of the country being inept, and the major city racked with poverty, the people are just like you and I. They may not have the education, wealth, and health that we have, but they are a beautiful proud people. To this day I have never seen a clearer, more beautiful night sky. It is amazing to look up at the cosmos and not be destracted by pollution and ambient light. Anyway that is my sermon I guess. Horrible, horrible news.
