I'm a sucker for 50's and 60's sci-fi and horror, so this morning I watched Invisible Invaders on Netflix. Lo and behold one character's name....Major Bruce Jay.

Saw Pacific Rim. It won't win any Oscars, it borrowed heavily from so many other movies, was full of cliches, was completely predictable, but it was kind of fun in its own way. It worked as a two hour diversion. Just don't go in expecting too much else.

Watched Coffee Town last night. Not an original idea, standard buddy movie. But I liked it a lot. Obviously I'm a huge fan of Glenn Howerton (It's Always Sunny and Philadelphia) and I also like Steve Little, he played Stevie in Eastbound and Down. Very funny. Absolutely worth renting.

Hitters who avoid outs are the funnest.
Lucas and Spielberg seem to think that the movie industry is heading towards a potential implosion.

Variatio delectat - Cicero
Oh, it's enjoyable allright, but just don't expect a whole lot going on beyond the visual elements. The acting's decent enough, the effects are darn good, and it moves along at a decent pace. It's a good enough popcorn movie. I saw it on the 3D imax and it was impressive.

I'm a big fan of the director... The Orphanage is one of the best supernatural thrillers EVER.

I was taking a teenager and he wanted to see it. I'll have to admit I wasn't really giving it much of a chance and I at least was entertained for a couple hours. Given my low expectations, I'm not disappointed.

I had fairly high expectations because of the director, and I came away unimpressed. The action scenes were cool and I enjoyed Ron Perlman, but I just couldn't get past how cliche it was...
It's giant robots fighting giant aliens. It's impossible for it to not be awesome
