Saw "This is 40" on Saturday. It was kind of a messy narrative, moreso that most other Apatow flicks I've seen. No real plot, just characters and relationships. Lots of people yelling and getting emotional, and then moving on without really responding to the outbursts. It had some funny bits, but all in all it wasn't great.

This was the only James Bond movie I hadn't seen so decided after all these years to give it a try. First off: They could have taken out the first part of the pre-main title scene with M, Q and Moneypenny and just started with Bond driving then chasing Tracy. Loved the line "This never happens to the other fellow".

Main titles - meh. Obviously they were rehashing scene bits from previous Bond movies to provide some fan comfort. Then the movie moves along quickly with good action and plot.

Lazenby shines when he's not trying to imitate Connery. After seeing OHMSS I have to believe he would've done quite well in Diamonds Are Forever. Rigg's character, Tracy, takes a while to like, but then she, as Bond says to her father, needs a psychiatrist.

The whole scene of Bond back at HQ, the interplay with M and Moneypenny, handing in his resignation, looking over mementos, made me squeamish - seemed too forced.

The rest of the movie, the stunning alpine scenery, action scenes on the slopes, other characters (Telly as Blofeld, Bunt, and Angels of Death were great), and finally the wedding/going to honeymoon at the end redeem the time spent in watching this flick. In summary, this was a very good Bond adventure.

How does it rank? Right smack in the middle!

    Goldfinger (1964-Sean Connery)
    Skyfall (2012-Daniel Craig)
    Dr. No (1962-Sean Connery)
You Only Live Twice (1967-Sean Connery)
    Casino Royale (2006-Daniel Craig)
    Thunderball (1965-Sean Connery)
    A View to a Kill (1985-Roger Moore)
From Russia With Love (1963-Sean Connery)
Live and Let Die (1973-Roger Moore)
    The Living Daylights (1987-Timothy Dalton)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974-Roger Moore)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969-George Lazenby)
    Moonraker (1979-Roger Moore)
    Licence to Kill (1989-Timothy Dalton)
    GoldenEye (1995-Pierce Brosnan)
    Quantum of Solace (2008-Daniel Craig)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977-Roger Moore)
For Your Eyes Only (1981-Roger Moore)
    Octo***** (1983-Roger Moore)
    Tomorrow Never Dies (1997-Pierce Brosnan)
    Die Another Day (2002-Pierce Brosnan)
    Diamonds Are Forever (1971-Sean Connery)
The World is Not Enough (1999-Pierce Brosnan)
I'll have to do some major reshuffling of the list. Bought and watched the 3 disc sets of Brosnan and Moore (2). Hadn't seen some of the films in their entirety in years. Will keep you posted...

Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)

I'd decided to rank them based on overall enjoyment: complete, two-thirds or a third.

Two-thirds starts with The Spy Who Loved Me, with only a third starting with Licence to Kill.

    Updated list:

    Goldfinger (1964-Sean Connery)
    Dr. No (1962-Sean Connery)
    Skyfall (2012-Daniel Craig)
    Thunderball (1965-Sean Connery)
From Russia With Love (1963-Sean Connery)
    Casino Royale (2006-Daniel Craig)
You Only Live Twice (1967-Sean Connery)
    GoldenEye (1995-Pierce Brosnan)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977-Roger Moore)
The World is Not Enough (1999-Pierce Brosnan)
    Moonraker (1979-Roger Moore)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969-George Lazenby)
    The Living Daylights (1987-Timothy Dalton)
    A View to a Kill (1985-Roger Moore)
    Quantum of Solace (2008-Daniel Craig)
    Licence to Kill (1989-Timothy Dalton)
For Your Eyes Only (1981-Roger Moore)
    Die Another Day (2002-Pierce Brosnan)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974-Roger Moore)
    ***** (1983-Roger Moore)
    Tomorrow Never Dies (1997-Pierce Brosnan)
Live and Let Die (1973-Roger Moore)
    Diamonds Are Forever (1971-Sean Connery)
    2024 Reds record attending: 1-0
    2024 Dragons record attending: 0-0
    2024 Y'Alls record attending: 0-0

You completely changed your mind? Live and Let Die is way too low but at least you moved GoldenEye up...

Just rented Taken 2-It kills an hour and a half but man the lightning fast editing on the action scenes is just ludicrous. You have no idea what is supposed to be going on at all.

Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)

My buddies and I are getting together for a weekend and we like watching bad/ridiculous movies. Some of our past choices include:
    The Room
    Point Break
    Roadhouse
    Sudden Death
    Gymkata
    Many of the Fast movies
    etc..

So, here is our potential list for Final Four weekend. Chime in with any advice.
    Punisher: War Zone
    Cobra (sorry...it's C.O.B.R.A.)
    Tango and Cash
    Machete
    The Devil's Advocate
    Bad Boys II
    Crank 2
    Expendables 2

If your friends can sit still for a moody, atmospheric sci-fi movie, check out Beyond the Black Rainbow. It is ridiculous.

Saw the Hobbit this weekend. Long and adventurous. Although some of the action sequences were ludicrous.
    Witty signature.

Crank 2, Machete, and Punisher: War Zone are all highly recommended from me. Punisher will blow your mind at how gory it is.

War Zone is my number one choice. Have you heard the interview on How Did This Get Made? with the director of the movie and with Patton Oswalt? It is amazing.
