Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)

I'm not a big fan of serious horror or gore so I tend to gravitate toward horror films that use humor and entertaining scares. I thought the first Insidious did well in that regard. Drag Me to Hell, the Conjuring, and Cabin in the Woods were great at offering entertaining, fun horror experiences. I think the scariness of a film loses out when you add humor and fun but I can't recall the last deathly serious horror I liked. Maybe 28 Days Later? Looking back now all the movies I've listed include some sci-fi elements on top of just demonic or ghost scares.

The article the finally answers the burning question: How far did Rocky run in the training montage in Rocky II?

The Iceman was good. Michael Shannon is awesome.

I liked Cabin in the woods a lot, but I took it more as a meta, deconstructionst-type look at formulaic horror films than as something really scary. The others I haven't seen yet. I like humor in a horror film if it's handled well, but it's tough to do. One of my all time favorite movies, Burnt Offerings, is downright campy, but still manages to induce nightmares.

I can't figure it out in my own writing. I tend to have a dry sense of humor, but every time I try it out in one of my stories, it falls flat.

My avatar managed to combine humor and the supernatural, fwiw. See his short story "The Skeleton" for instance (or the TV episode made from it with Eugene Levy.)

I really liked it. It is a little long for the type of movie it is, but very well shot and acted.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints. Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Ben Foster. I thought it was very good.

Skinny Pete even has a small role.

Rounders was a movie I enjoyed from my high school/college days. I wanted so bad for Runner Runner to be good. The plan was to see it tonight but the reviews or so incredibly bad that its not worth it.

Gonna give Captain Phillips a try instead.

Just got back from Gravity, and it lives up to the hype. One of the more thrilling movies I've ever seen. I sat down front, which was a mistake cuz of susceptibility to motion sickness, so be careful of that if you're like me (also why I didn't see it in 3D).

    But seriously spectacular.

Saw this movie in 3D and it was great. Couple of very convenient science fiction curveballs to move the story. For example. You can't decorbit space in two hours.

I will probably see this movie again in non 3D also .

Seriously who posts spoilers the day after a movie is released?

People are still mad that Affleck is playing Batman.
