Still backing the Josh Ravin train. I will take a 94-95 MPH fastball and a good breaking ball that also comes with on again-off again control over what anyone else left has. He goes through stretches where he throws plenty of strikes. That means he can figure it out. I will take my chances with that kind of upside.

Re: Who is Redszone's #39 prospect?

    I'm torn between . . .

    1. Chacin. As an 18-year-old last year in the AZL, he was practically impeccable: 22 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 7 BB, 34 K, 1.23 ERA, 0.864 WHIP. This followed a nearly-as-good first year in the VSL. He's one of those guys whose performance apparently outstrips the stuff. I'm the kind, though, who buys into performance until it goes away.

    2. Renken. His overall numbers last year, splitting time between Dayton and Bakersfield, were good, not great. The impressive thing was the handful of absolutely dominant games he put up. There was a 5-game stretch in July and August that included a six-inning, no-hit stint and 28.1 IP all told with 12 hits and 30 K. There was another game in which he struck out 14 in six innings. For the year, he fanned 165 in 143.1 IP. He's said to have average stuff but an odd, deceptive delivery. He's 22 and was drafted in the 25th round, 2010.

    3. Puckett. The best thing he has going for him are his career .802 OPS and .467 slugging pct. He split last season between second base--his main position until then--and left field, which he's evidently headed to. For a fairly small guy, he's had consistent power over the years. Last year, he started off very hot, appearing to be one of the organization's top hitters. But he tailed off considerably, which is why, at age 24, he's in the scrum at #39.

Still with Puckett, then Ravin, then Renken.

Not sure anyone cares, but, fwiw, here goes:

Guys not in my top 40 already voted in:

Junior Arias #27 not done enough and defense is iffy
Kyle Lotzkar #13 too many injuries
Jonathon Perez #36 no full season experience
Chris Valaika #38, below average in all areas

Guys in my top 40 still on the board:

    Dan Renken #17
    Ismael Guillon #25
    Mitchell Clarke #30
    Blaine Howell #31
    Clay Shunick #36
Jonathon Correa or whatever his name is #39

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Going Guillon again, he's young, lefthanded, and I like his upside.
(Referring to Jack Hannahan signing with a Korean team)
Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

Mitchell Clarke seems like a good call whom we've mostly overlooked. (Kind of weird, though, that he's a left-handed pitcher who bats right-handed.)

I still really like Sal Romano. He's got a great arm at a young age (a young 18), and has already been clocked at 94 MPH. Got a lot of positive reviews from coaches. Signed over slot. Amazing high school numbers. I like that potential much more than hoping for a breakout from the remaining guys.

Re: Who is Redszone's #39 prospect?

Since I don't have any access to the tools these particular prospects possess, I am going strictly on numbers. The Pioneer League's cumulative ERA was a shade over 5. Radhames Quezada, who wasn't overly old for the league, had an ERA of about 1.25 runs less than that. He also had a K/9 of 10, a BB/9 of just 2.2 and a K/BB of 4.58. Those seem like solid peripherals to me. And I like the name. =)

Quezada also turned in a FIP in the low 2s. During Billings broadcasts they say his fastball hits mid 90s. I have high hopes for this guy.

Quezada has a good arm on him. I can't wait to see him this season.

I'm short on time and won't be able to start the next poll until tomorrow. If anyone's in a hurry, feel free to go for it. Otherwise, we'll fall back a bit. Sorry.

I'm voting for him, but I worry about Corky Miller catching him at some point. I'm not sure the world needs a Corky/Romano battery.

Besides that, didn't Sal Romano used to be on Mad Men?

Bingo - the art director Salvatore Romano.
