Guitarist Ronnie Montrose Dead at 64

Those of us from the "older" generation will remember him well. I had all of Montrose's albums. Songs like Bad Motor Scooter, Rock Candy, Rock The Nation, Space Station #5, all good stuff.

Laid down some classic riffs/songs. If I catch Bad Motor Scooter on XM Radio, the volume gets turned to 10. His riffs and Hagar's voice were a great mix. RIP.

Saw Montrose at a Columbus club back when he was with the Edgar Winter Group. Like 1972-73. I think it was the Agora but I can't say for sure.

All I can remember is that they did a looooonnggggg version of Frankenstein.

Learned of his passing this morning. Saw Montrose open for Steppenwolf on their Slow Flux tour near the end of 1974 I believe it was. This band was awesome. Hagar went on the be...Hagar. The drummer, Denny Carmassi (sp.) went on to play for Heart in their heyday. Bill Church played with someone of fame too and I am too lazy to look it up now. After Hagar and Church split they brough in a couple of new guys and, in my opinon, were just as good. Montrose was a band we used to love to see. The album cover for Jump On It is classic.

    RIP Ronnie.
