Cozart lines hard to the third baseman, who leaps and snares to take a hit away.
    Hanigan singles hard to right.
Phillips with an infield single to shortstop. (Charged as an error).
Valdez lines to right and Hanigan is doubled off second. Fizzle.

    Bottom five:

    Suzuki flies to center.
    Allen flies to center.
Negron boots one at third. Reds third error on the day. Francisco, Valdez, Negron.
Ex-Red Adam Rosales shoots a single to right.
Pennington bounces to Valdez at short who flips to Phillips for the force.

    6-1.

    Heisey singles to left.
Willie Harris sends one deep to right that is hauled in on the warning track.
With Heisey running Negron sends one to right-center. Heisey scampers back.
Wild pitch sends Heisey into scoring position.
    Soto grounds to third.

Reds 0 for 6 w/RISP. The more things change....

Cowgill with an infield single to third. Francis in his third inning of work.
Cowgill steals second as the throw goes into center. Jones is backing the play so the runner holds at second.
Bouncer to third for the second out.
Francis Ks Jonny Gomes for out number two.
Valdez fields a grounder and fires to first to end the inning.

Oakland opens the season in Japan and then comes back to the states to play four more exhibition games before resuming the regular season. Crazy.
They leave Arizona after a game on the 21st of March. Play a split squad doubleheader against Japanese teams on the 25th. Play the Mariners in two regular-season games on 28th and 29th. Fly back to the states for exhibition games on the 31st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. And then resume the regular season against the Mariners on the 6th. Wow.

Denis Phipps gaps one for a double to lead off the 7th, now hitting .385 here in early spring.
Cozart singles hard to the leftfielder. Taylor bobbles the ball to allow Phipps to score. No RBI. Cozart moves to second on the error.
Esposito grounds to short, Cozart moves over to third.
Valaika is robbed of extra bases in the left-centerfield gap. Cozart scores.
    Gregorius smoked. Caught looking.

    6-3.

    Yoenis Cespedes update:

After going 2 for 2 with a walk in his first game, including taking an 84 MPH room service fast ball deep, Cespedes has proceeded to go 1 for his next 18, including 6 strikeouts. Maybe he should hold off on writing that HOF speech for a while. Say at least until his next base hit.
