Veterans On Minors Deals In Line For $100K Bonus

Wasn't sure where to put this, but this is a piece from MLB Traderumors about a little known clause in the new CBA that effects players with 6+ years of experience and how they're handled on minor league deals. The two in the Reds camp are Jeff Francis and Willie Harris.

Clearly it will have an effect on how clubs make some of these decisions.

A couple of thoughts. I think Brett Tomko should be listed under the Reds for the players on such deals. I've tweated MLBTradeRumors.com to ask about that. Likewise, it's very possible that the clubs have factored in this additional cost although it's still a factor whether to just cut a player as opposed to have to put in the $100K and still lose a player come June 1st.

Sounds like Tomko was on a minor league deal last year. Only guys coming off a expiring major league deal will be eligable for the bonus.

    Ah, good explanation.
