Article from Grantland on player value and blame

Somewhat interesting read from Baumann on Grantland, mentioning our own Joey Votto and everyone's favorite stat, the RBI.

The trouble with using Potter Stewart’s standard for identifying pornography — I know it when I see it — as a means of identifying “run producers” is that not everything in the world is pornography, or even like pornography. I thought this was interesting, from @baseballminutia:

Joe Mauer draws 27.9% of the Twins payroll. Scott Feldman is drawing 24.5% of the Astros payroll. Joey Votto only 11.3% of the Reds payroll

The Mauer point is interesting, but I do not really think much of the Feldman one. The Astros are in the midst of an extreme rebuild, that percentage will decrease quite a bit in the near future.

True. Since their payroll is so low, anyone making any kind of decent money is going to make that percentage larger.
