I don't know what type of testing they do in Japan. But I do know their fences used to be quite a bit shorter distance than MLB fences. I have no idea if they are now or not. Also IIRC, when Rhodes tied for the HR lead with Oh the Japanese pitchers wuit pitching to him. They would walk or hit him every time up. They want Oh to remain HR champion forever in Japan. Maybe they think differently now?

It isn't that they want Oh to remain the HR champ, but that if someone breaks the record they want it to be another Japanese player.

Can you imagine if American players did that in MLB?

Only Sosa has threatened as a non-American player, correct?

Todd Redmond, he of one start last year, picked up a win as the starter tonight against the Yankees and has been very solid for Toronto. I guess next year Greg Reynolds will go to Seattle or something and make 32 starts.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

MLB Trade rumors reports that Volquez choose the Dodgers after getting interested from the Reds among others.

Dave Sappelt designated for assignment by Chicago. I do not believe he will be a minor league free agent this off-season since he was drafted in 2008.

Cubs Designate Dave Sappelt For Assignment

By Zach Links [September 3 at 3:03pm CST]

The Cubs announced that they have designated outfielder Dave Sappelt for assignment. The move makes way for the promotion of left-hander Zach Rosscup.

Sappelt, 26, came to the Cubs along with Ronald Torreyes and Travis Wood in exchange for Sean Marshall prior to the 2012 season. He hit just .240/.269/.280 this season and is a career .251/.301/.343 hitter in 274 plate appearances.

For those who aren't aware, any time you're designated for assignment and assigned to the minor leagues, you become a free agent at the end of the year. In other words, even though Pedro Villarreal has optioned, because he was assigned to the Reds' minor league squad when he was taken off the 40-man roster, he may choose to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Don't look now..but Didi Gregorius is cooling off bigtime and Cozart is heating up a bit.

    - Didi is at .707 OPS (.513 in August)
    - Zack is at .661 OPS (.726 in August)

Baseball's such a funny game like that. Definitely not a sprint, but a marathon.

Sappelt cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA.
