Re: ST: Reds vs. Royals Tues. 3/13

Jonathan Sanchez deals for the Royals.

    Full-count free pass to Stubbs.
Pickoff throw bounces off the glove of the first baseman and Stubbs moves over to the third. Kelch feels Stubbs was picked off but Butler tried to make the tag before he had the ball.
Valaika slices the ball the right and Stubbs trots home as Francoeur backpedals and makes the catch. 1-0.
Heisey flies out to the second baseman in short right.
BOOM! Jay Bruce sends it out to straightaway center. 2-0. Has to be well over 400 feet per Gameday chart.
Rolen walks. Sanchez up over 30 pitches. He is gonna get all his work in in one inning of work.
Frazier comes up empty. Inning over.

    2-0. Reds.

Re: ST: Reds vs. Royals Tues. 3/13

Leake takes the mound up two. That has to be a nice feeling.

Leake walks Gordon to start things off for the Royals.
Giovotella waves at a change-up and is quickly down on three pitches.
Billy Butler lines one to center. 1st and 2nd with one out.
Leake knocks down a sharply groundball up the middle. Leake chases it down and throws low but Soto makes a nice scoop. Two down. Runners move up 90 feet.
Francouer singles to right. Runners on the corners. 2-1.
Welsh blasphemes and suggests Stubbs may benefit by sacrificing a little power for more contact. Horrors!
Cain can-of-corns to Heisey in left.

    2-1. Reds.

    Top of the 2nd.

Mesoraco leading things off. Pops it up to short. One down.
Soto shoots one on a line to Francoeur in right for the second out.
Janish pops one up to the third baseman. Easy inning for Sanchez.

    2-1. Reds.

Re: ST: Reds vs. Royals Tues. 3/13

Leake back to the mound. He is sitting 90-91 today.

Cody Clark with a line single to left.
Betancourt follows Clark with a line single to left. 1st and 2nd.
An Escobar bunt moves the runners along.
Gordon locked up inside for the second out. K isn't gonna score any runs. Reds' fans familiar with that.
Grounder kicks off the glove of a diving Paul Janish. Giavotella drives in a pair. Put the ball in play. 3-2.
Leake can't find the strike zone with four straight offerings and Butler trots down to first.
Hosmer grounds one past the diving Paul Janish in the hole. Janish was shading him up the middle in an attempt to keep the runner close and it costs the Reds. Giavotella scores. 4-2.
Francoeur flies out to Bruce along the foul line.

    4-2. Royals.

Chris Welsh will fly solo here in the third. Announcing a game is so taxing that they have to take two or three innings off during the game? I had no idea.

Drew Stubbs with an infield hit off the glove of the pitcher. This just in. Stubbs can fly.
Valaika with a solid shot to center. Stubbs stops at second.
Pitching change as Sanchez reaches his pitch limit (50 pitches in 2-plus) in an appearance very reminiscent of Edinson Volquez. Everett Teaford on.
Heisey Ks. Way to move those runners along.
Bruce continues his hot hitting, singling sharply to center to drive in Drew Stubbs. 4-3. 1st and 2nd.
Rolen works his second walk on the afternoon to load them up for Todd Frazier.
Frazier grounds into left field to score Valaika. Bruce out by the slimmest of margins on a play at the plate. 4-4. Kelch notes that Mark Berry was in the way and caused Bruce to take a little stutter step when rounding third. Coaches need spring training too it would appear.
Mesoraco leaves two stranded on a grounder back to the mound

    4-4. Nobody.

An hour to play 2 and a half innings. Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a Snickers. This would be my biggest pet peeve with baseball. The time it takes to play a game.

Another dive by Janish and another infield base hit on a sharply hit ball by Cain.
Grounder off the glove of Frazier at third. Another infield hit. Ball has eyes this inning for the Royals. 1st and 2nd.
Betancourt sends Heisey to the warning track. Cain moves up as Heisey throws in to second to hold the runner at first. 1st and 3rd. One down.
Escobar fists the ball to Janish who starts a 6-4-3 double play. Leake works out of one-out trouble.

    4-4. Nobody.

Neftali Soto bounces the first pitch over the second base bag to reach first.
Janish fooled and the ball comes off the end of his bat. 4-6-3.
    Stubbs Ks. Yawn.

    4-4. Nobody.

Re: ST: Reds vs. Royals Tues. 3/13

Nick Christiani takes over pitching duties.

Christiani falls behind 2-0 and has to come in with a fastball. Gordon drives it out the other way. 5-4.
Giavotella pops behind the plate and Mesoraco drops the ball. E-2. Giavotella gets a second life. He can't take advantage, Ks on a cutter.
Butler grounds a single to left.
High bouncer to the mound and they get the force at second. Hosmer now standing on the first-base bag.
Christiani throws one in the dirt and Hosmer heads on down to second.
    Francouer bounces out 1-3.

    5-4. Royals.

Valdez bounces to short for the first out.
Heisey, once again, looking awful on off-speed pitches. Ks for the second time today.
If pitchers have a book on hitters, don't major-league hitters know that? Don't they know what is likely coming?
    Bruce Ks.

    5-4. Royals.

Sudden Sam LeCure hurling here in the fifth.

Cain bombs one out to left on a full count. 6-4. Welsh estimates that went about 450 feet.
Clark pops to Valdez at second.
Betancourt grounds out to Frazier for the second out.
Hard hit ball off the glove of LeCure. Janish fields in short center but can't gun down the runner. Another infield hit.
Welsh talking about how Reds' first basemen have a new way of holding runners. It is going right in one ear and out the other here. Something about a blind tag but they are in better fielding position.
    Gordon Ks on something slow.

    6-4. Royals.

I am wondering if Heisey might be on the bubble. Theoretically, Frazier could be the 4th outfielder.

LeCure could lose his job to Francis if he keeps giving up bombs every time he takes the mound. I wouldn't think Sam's job is secure. Francis is gonna be busy this month, taking the jobs of both LeCure and Arroyo.

If Sam has options, I'd say your right.

Who do you think the backup plan for Arroyo is, Chapman or Marshall?

Top 6th. New pitcher for K.C. Jeremy Jeffress?? Righthanded fireballer who came over in the Greinke trade. Former first round pick. I think I heard that he has been caught on the drug/steroid testing program twice already. Three strikes and you are out.

Rolen flies to center. One down.
Juan Francisco to the plate. GM. GA. GN. Ks looking. I find it funny that they are getting on Francisco for coming in 12 pounds overweight. I think of some of those spring training photos of Dunn, Kearns, Coffey etc. LOL.
Navarro taking over for Mesoraco. Grounds out to second.
Jeffress was hitting 97/98. Kid can bring the cheese. Got Juan F. looking at a fastball clocked at 99.
