    Estimated jackpot $356 million

Who is going to get a ticket for Tuesday?

I play all the time. I know the odds are way against me. But it's my little fun.

Definitely going to buy a ticket. I start playing very close attention when it gets above $100M. I'm pretty sure this jackpot is in the top 5 all time highest.

I have tickets already. Have to drive an hour to Georgia to get them so I buy 2 for each drawing for 5 weeks. $20 bucks.

I always say if I win I will buy a minor league franchise. So right now I'd find a way to get a High A franchise and "boom" the Reds are back east.

The odds of winning a new 72-inch HD TV in the church picnic raffle are way against you. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot, particularly when it is high and millions of non-regulars are lured into playing, is so astronomically insignificant it's hard to even quantify.

About the same odds as getting hit by a piece of falling space junk. Or of the Reds trailing the Yankees 15-0 with two outs in the bottom of the 9th of game 7 of the World Series, then proceeding to hit four consecutive grand slams to win.

I prefer the e-trade baby's odds - You are more likely to be attacked by a polar bear and a regular bear on the same day. Always makes me laugh.

I could be a jerk and point out that it is impossible to hit four consecutive grand slams...but we know what you mean.

What do the number of people playing have to do with the odds. I suppose it plays into the payout more than the odds.

They're still astronomic but they're no worse if you're playing for $20 million or $356 Million.

    So, you're saying I have a chance?

Same here. When it gets this high, I'll grab a few tickets just for fun. I know what the odds are, so I don't spend anything I wouldn't have wasted anyway on snack runs. It's a lottery ticket, not an investment portfolio.

I'll buy tickets when it gets this high for entertainment value.

I figure its worth a couple bucks for that 30 seconds of anticipation when I'm looking up the results. There is always is that teeny-tiny eentsy-beentsy miniscule sliver of "I know I won't win but wouldn't it be something if I did".

    MegaMillions

One of my favorite stories from "A Mathemetician at a Ballgame" involves a statistics professor who after hearing the jackpot had gone above $175 million told his students that if they were so inclined, now was the time to buy a lottery ticket because the payout for the ticket was finally more than the odds against winning. Stopping for gas on the way home, he decided to follow his own advice and buy a ticket.

    Of course he won.

The story is so good, I've decided it can't possibly be true.

No way it takes the Reds more than 5 games to finish off the Yankees.

If I win this, I'm renting out multiple suites at Busch Stadium and inviting everyone in the RedsZone to see the Reds play the Cards for the weekend. Beer and everything would be on me!!!!

Yes, the beer would be "on you." Literally.
