Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson. We only have one left now. If you haven't seen Doc play, you should. Soon.
I used to play on open nights at a place in Covington and many an old picker would come out and make me feel like I should just put my guitar away and listen. These guys were Appalachians; old brick layers, carpenters, ex miners, transplants from the hills of West Virginia, Western Carolina, East Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky.
Earl Scruggs and his generation are the heart and soul of Bluegrass and although there are certainly good and even great young pickers playing today, it's somehow hard to accept that they have the appropriate life experiences, the closeness to the hills, the gospel tradition and the old time music family traditions to carry on what these people started.
I'm sad to see him go.
Next Reds manager, second shooter. --Confirmed on Redszone.
"In my day you had musicians who experimented with drugs. Now it's druggies experimenting with music" - Alfred G Clark (circa 1972)
