One of my favorite things about The Real ORG is that he wrote about the game from his heart, sure he knew that it was a game of numbers and a game that could/can be broken down into minutiae and nuances, but he also knew it was about people. Be they adult fans, players or children with a stick and an old ball in their backyard playing made up contests against the garage. That’s why the game is so great it is sewn out of so many threads of your life, where you are/were at certain parts of the journey and of your relationship with it at each moment of that journey.

It’s like marriage or family, you know it so well and then you don’t and yet you need to strive to understand why it’s changed and how you can make it work for and that lifestyle you are encumbered with at that moment in time.

It’s the human element that he could emote about that makes me like his writing more and more each time I read it, it’s really special stuff and it’s really something we should all want out of a game we played as kids and obsess over as adults.

I feel like ORG’s writings deserve a wider audience. I’m truly in awe of the way he could paint a word picture with such humor, eloquence, and heart, all the while making it look easy. What a treasure he left behind, and how fortunate we mere mortal Reds fans are to have access to it.
