    Re: Scoreboard Watching 2012

There are only four teams in baseball with better records than the Pirates and they still have a losing record *away* (not at home as I said when I first wrote this post). I don't normally put a whole lot of stock into home/away splits, but with them it really is extraordinary. They inordinately favor that park.

There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

The Brewers won the division last year with a flukey home record. But then, they had a better team than the Pirates.

Unrelated to NL action, Ryan Dempster has been tattooed in his first start tonight for the Rangers. The Angels have lit him up for a pair of homers and 7 runs in four innings.

The Rockies are up one-nil on the Cardinals in the 4th inning in Denver.

Rockies put a 3-spot on the board in the 7th inning to jump ahead 5-2 on St. Louis. They got a 1-2-3 8th inning so they'll head to the bottom of the 8th with a 3-run lead.

Rockies beat Cardinals 8 to 2 (We get free tacos!).

Berkman grounded out to 2nd in the 9th, and looked like he was hurting. He went half way to first, grimacing and in pain.

Him sitting would probably make them better. Allen Craig was on the bench tonight. And anytime Craig is on the bench and Berkman is in the lineup, it probably hurts St. Louis at this point.

    8 ahead of St. Louis

Really, really nice to see for Cincinnati fans.

Gotta win 2 games this weekend. No other result will suffice. Build that lead. A sweep would be awesome (+3 games=6.5 game lead), but two of three gives the Reds a 4.5 game lead. Perfect.

After a rocky start to the Pads series.....they are amazingly going into the weekend fresh. Key bullpen arms are rested, and good combination on offense of having guys rested AND the whole roster having seen quality PT...they should all be sharp.

Starters have had a tough time through the last rotation.....let's hope they are a bit sharper this weekend.

Reds are now 8 up in the wildcard hunt over the 56-49 Cardinals. Dodgers are fading again, the Giants are floundering while the DBacks are surging. Reds, Braves and Pirates all playing unreal baseball the last few weeks.

So the Reds, Nats, Braves, Pirates continue to separate themselves with the NL West winner as the last playoff slot.

The only possible team that is an additional threat to these five playoff teams would be the Cardinals. So every Cards loss is gravy at this point.

This is an underrated part of the manager's job. And Baker's done a good job with his 'pen. In fact, I'd argue that he's done a great job with both that and his regulars.

Rolen, Ludwick, Bruce, Stubbs, even Cozart have been given time to rest within the season, while hte team kept on winning. (That, IMO, is the mark of a good manager-- winning in spite of key injuries and weaknesses apparent in team construction.) The injuries to Votto and Phillips may keep both guys fresh and slugging at the end of the season when others are worn out.

Fun game going on in Oakland for the late night crew. Going to the 14th, and Toronto is out of position players and have lost their DH.
