He played four rookies, not five. And he did it mostly for matchup reasons as we were facing LHP Wolf. Righthanded bats Greene and Robinson replaced lefthanders Jay and Descalso. Carpenter played 1b for Berkman because Wolf owns him. Backup catcher Cruz played so that Molina could start all three games against the Reds.

And Robinson hit a 3-run bomb to salt the game away. Made Matheny look good.

Glad to see Rolen in there for some reason I was worried that Dusty was going to sit him.

I checked MLB.com right after Texasdave's post, and the original St. Louis lineup didn't have Berkman. Guess he was able to convince Matheny.

Going to be tough to beat the Cardinals' best, but IMO this is our best lineup as well minus Rolen and Bruce trading spots.

Oh, excuse me...the pitcher, (Lance Lynn?) whom I thought was a rookie had a couple of starts last year. Molina needs a rest 3 games into the season for the Reds? What are the Brewers, chopped liver?

Don't believe everything you read, my friend.

Winning the game is a different story. Homer has only beaten the Cards twice in the past three years.

Westbrook lost 20 pounds in the offseason, came into camp in great shape and allowed only 12 hits in 24 preseason innings.

    Should be a good matchup.
Bailey also lost 15 pounds, coming into camp in great shape, then got shelled in a few of his outings.

And none of the spring stats mean doodly squat. I hope it is not a good game. I will not complain at all about an 8-1 Reds butt whipping.

Hard to believe Homer has never faced Beltran.

Wasn't Beltran in the AL for a few years?

Anyway, these stats point to a slugfest! Relief pitching may rule.

If you look at the schedule you'll see why.

For a catcher, playing a day game after a night game typically requires extra rest beforehand.

    Ballpark looks empty very disappointing.

Cards 1-0. I guess we can be glad the bases were empty.
