    Kyle McMyne

Looking forward to watching this kid after seeing him for the first time last night. Fastball hit 96, but he threw probably 65 percent breaking balls. Looked good. Not much success in '11, but easy to see why they liked him well enough to draft him in the fourth round. Lets see what happens. Certainly one of the very best power arms in the organization.

96 mph I'll take that any day with some good movement. Any chance that you may have seen James Allen, he is at Dayton to and was taken before McMyne. (Stats said he has thrown 3 innings)? Looks like Dayton will have a good bull pen!

Thanks for the report, redsof72. Any idea why McMyne is so much more successful this year compared to last? Has there been any material improvement or can we just chalk it up to a lucky small sample size?

    Re: Kyle McMyne

I have wondered the same thing. He looks like he fits better as a reliever for one thing. Some say he was not completely healthy last summer in Billings. Without question, pitchers in pro ball the season they were drafted often show some lingering effects of the college season, depending on how they were used by their coach. I remember when Mark Serrano came to Dayton in 2009 out of Oral Roberts and he had games that spring where he threw over 160 pitches.

As you said, it is early. But I like McMyne and Quezada a lot (Quezada could really jump up the prospect list with a good year). Ryan Kemp has looked very good. Still early.
