Getting off subject here, but this is fun....
Another fond SEC memory that I had from that era was when I got to witness in person LSU Freshman Chris Jackson drop 'half a hundred' on the Gators in a shootout.
I believe his 53 point performance remains an O'Dome record nearly 25 years later.
That kid could shoot.
And did.
Often.

Especially given the announcer.
When all is said and done more is said than done.
Kid was absolutely unguardable.
Too bad Joe Dean wasn't announcing that game. He would have worn out "They call that Straaaang music from Knoxville, Tennessee."
Jackson was one of the best SEC players I have ever seen. Just a remarkable player.
Marty did UK Network TV games for a couple of seasons in the late 80's. One of those years was 1989,the only losing season UK has had in about 80 years. I blame Marty for that.

It was obvious that Marty loved doing NCAA basketball games. In fact, he has mentioned publically that he very much would have loved to become the UK play-by-play announcer after the death of Cawood Ledford.
Apparently, when Jim Host selected Ralph Hacker as the on-air replacement, Marty cried conspiracy and has not had much nice to say about Hacker ever since.
I could not agree more.
