Yes, horrible call. But... bad decision to go by Drew Stubbs. Pitcher up next and you bunt. Never make the 1st or last out at 3rd base. Even on a bad call... too close to chance it. Esp. in that situation.

    Still a terrible call though!

I'll never understand the argument against instant replay.

Cardinals made a nearly perfect play on it, and Stubbs was clearly safe. Can't fault the decision.

Cards luck is unreal. It has to end eventually.

There is no rhyme or reason to the "never make the 1st or last out at 3rd base."

That is a silly unwritten rule. Just silly. Actually getting to third with no outs is a huge tactical advantage because of the many ways you can score from third with less than one out. That makes it a good reason to try and go first-to-third in that situation. It sets up scoring on a sac fly, a balk, a wild pitch, a groundout, etc.

It took a near perfect throw AND a terrible call for Stubbs to be out on that play. That right there is textbook evidence as to why Stubbs made a good decision going to third.
"No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference." ~Tommy Lasorda

Of course that falls, why wouldn't it.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Stubbs makes a diving try but can't come up with the ball. Single for Beltran.

Great play by Rolen to start a 5-4 FC.
