Nice inning, Latos
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.
Latos got some calls that inning. This ump is bad.
Latos gets better by mid-May...he's going to be a beast.
Scott Rolen is doing even worse than we think, though that's hard to imagine.
Look at what he's done with Runners on Base (when a #4 hitter needs to perform at his best, and the reason he's batting in the #4 hole, or even in the #6 hole....a pitcher would be better than Rolen):
Going into tonight's game (he's already 0 for 1), he's had 33 plate appearances. He's struck out 10 times, reached on an error, grounded into two double plays, walked twice, knocked in 3 runs, hit 4 singles and 1 double, with no sacrifice hits or sacrifice flies. His OPS is .379, SLG .167, AVG .133 and OBP .212.
Nobody plays that good of defense to make up for that.
Rolen needs to go away for good for the rest of his career.
Frazier needs more of Rolen's playing time. The old man has died.
Rolen is definitely at the end of a great career, and slumping badly. At some point the Reds have to think about a permanent move.
Lets see if Latos can get through a 5th inning
Thats a good start.
48 pitches through five innings for Latos.
