Trying to get to the 5 1/2 innings for a legal game. Conditions be damned. Besides only 10 more minutes of rain according to Thom

"Slightly above average." I can agree with that. But remember that next time someone tries to tell you that Stubbs is some defensive asset in CF for the Reds. He's about average. He's fast and has a good arm, but is bad at several things (bad around the wall, bad at ground balls/one-hoppers, etc).

Solid AB from Phillips after swinging at a pretty terrible pitch to go down 0-2.

Really? Are you saying the "slightly above average" thing is inaccurate? I'd say that's dead on (maybe a bit generous, in fact). People see a lightning-fast Stubbs in center and assume he's a great defensive player. But it's far from the truth.

Those seem like things you can get better at.

Stubbs' defense may not be perfect, but it is the LEAST of this team's concerns.

Hey, I hope he does. I'm all for Drew Stubbs one day being a Gold-Glover. Be shocked if it happened though.

That was the case with Taveras and Patterson, its hardly the case with Stubbs. He's pretty good in CF. Could he be better? Yeah, everyone could be. He's pretty good though.

I think he's very good out there. He makes plays look routine that other guys make diving acrobatic plays on. He does, however, avoid contact...with the wall and the ground. I rarely see him dive or make the acrobatic play. I'll take him out there every day of the week. If there's any OF defender on here who's overrated, it's Heisey.

Bruce with a pop up to right field. Guy swings straight up much of the time.

We'll agree to disagree on this one. Just think Stubbs is average defensively.

I think he's been a little better with the wall thing lately, but they all seem to be issues of running faster than anybody to get to the ball, then a moment of shakiness on what to do next.

BTW, we're fine in this game. Plenty of time left, only down 2 runs. Let's do this.

Stubbs is a LOT better than Heisey on defense in centerfield.
