I had to laugh at the guy who spent $50 at three throws per dollar. I guess after 150 pitches he finally realized it wasn't going to happen.

You know he didnt rest every 15 or 20 pitches for 10 minutes either. I am guessing he woke up with a very sore arm and ready to go on the DL.

When I read that article I quickly got reminded of how unimpressed I was when I read Charlie Sheen played baseball in college and had a 85 mph fastball. Can you imagine facing Chapman's 106 mph fastball as a batter?

What do you suppose the average dude off the street would throw on his first toss? 60 MPH?

The 'gun at our local batting cages puts me in the 54-55 range. I can get just a little higher, but my aim suffers from it.

Most guys probably average tops 61-62 mph with no warm up tosses. In my playing days I was throwing my fastball in the 85-88 range. That was about 15 years ago. I did throw some at the Reds hall of fame and museum last year. We went on a day off and I was really just trying to throw strikes and see if I could still throw a curve and slider. My brother in law made a little fun of me. "A pitcher who was scouted by colleges cain't throw over 75" he said. So I let the next 3 fly hard as I could they all registered 82. I must say I was sore the next day. Could I do it probably but it wouldn't be worth it. And i am only 32 ain't no way in another 17 years. Moyer is some kind of freak!

I think I'm in the 50's and honestly, it makes me mad to have a weak arm. I always hear that you are born with a great arm or not, but is there not something I can do to gain more velocity. Formwise, there must be something. I need to know for softball throws from the outfield.

Kinetic energy, my man. Put the force from your legs and torso into the ball through your arm.

    Easier said than done, also.

I tried a few tosses at the Reds Hall of Fame last season and could not hit 70 for the life of me. Most were in the 65-67 range, I believe I hit 69 once or twice. My goal is to hit 70 this season.

I also post on another great site but everyone over there regularly touches 88 at the Reds HOF...without warmup...and not really trying.

When I throw one from the top of the Carew Tower to the sidewalk below I can top 95 easy.
