Thursday April 26, 2012 Minor League updates

Dayton and Pensacola are both underway and both on Milb.tv if you subscribe (and if you don't, its a great way to spend $40).

Pensacola is up 2-1. Tim Gustafson got the start.

Dayton is down 1-0. Justice French is on the mound.

An error, that is questionable since Ryan LaMarre was running, has led to 3 unearned runs scoring for Pensacola. They now lead 5-3.

Mark Serrano came in for relief tonight. He has two PA's. One walk and one K. And he scored a run. I find it funny.

Loving French's numbers so far this year. Solid to very good K rate, low BB rate (voted Red minor leaguer with best control by BA), low H/9 in 2012.

Early still, but good to see him do well.

Pensacola fans saw Henry Rodriguez go 4 for 5 and cleanup hitter Juan Guzman backed that up with his own 4 for 5 in a 9-3 win.

Both are over 300 for the year. Rodriguez-- with his four singles-- is at 322.

Was at the game in Jacksonville tonight. The Jacksonville starter, Evans, managed the unthinkable. First time through the order, he walked the Pensacola starter, Tim Gustafson, on four pitches. Second time through, Serrano came up to pinch-hit for Gustafson (and take over pitching) with two on and one out. He was bunting. Again, Evans walked the pitcher on four pitches.

And speaking of funny . . . you should have seen Serrano scoring from second on a clear single to right field. First, he slowed approaching third base. When he was waved on, it was painful to watch him trying to score. Which he inevitably did, sliding clumsily.

No, Jax. We're taking a few days of vacation in St. Augustine, so I dragged my wife to the games tonight and last night. I think we're finished. I thought about having the PA guy page you. Well, sort of. "Is there is anybody in the house who calls himself JaxRed on Redszone . . ." Didn't think that would really fly.

Last night we sat in the back row of section 112. (I have some trouble negotiating steps.) Tonight we sat in the seats behind section 107. Very nice.

He breezed. The breaking ball was really sharp. I assumed it was mostly the slider, but there may have been some curveballs involved. He also hit 91 or 92.

Clayton Tanner also looked very commanding out there.

    Gustafson, not so much.
