I understand that Dusty Baker has no use for Chris Heisey but come on now. Jay Bruce is 1 for 26 against Wandy Rodriguez with 13 Ks. Rodriguez can just throw his glove out on the mound and get Bruce out. Heisey is 3 for 8 with a double and a homer. I guess you might say Jay is due. I don't know. Rodriguez has that big lefty curve.

That is what I would label a big-time...no....HUGE mistake in lineup construction.

Unless we learn that Heisey is out for some reason.....

OTOH, maybe it just came to Baker.

Epiphanies are impossible to explain. And almost as difficult to resist.

Everybody has their own personality and their own coaching style, but I have watched Dusty long enough to know a couple of things. I will not comment on his use of players - only that when Dusty starts trusting his gut feelings and epiphanies he is making a mistake. He does not have that type of personality and he is not that type of manager. Sometimes you need to know who you are and I don't think even after years of coaching, that Dusty knows who he is.

In a positive sense here is how I would sum up Dusty. He is an offensive minded manager who is able to allow talent to emerge from talented players. He is able to use his skills as a former player to foster hitting. He is also able to cultivate pitching, but has a knack for using it ineffectively.

Dave you are spot on. This is my biggest problem with dusty. Everyone says hes a "feelings" and "Match up" guy. Then he goes and does something like this. We is he not consistant in these decisions.

On the flip side bruce was Since coming home. Maybe he is in the begining of his hot streak. Riden while hes hot I guess.

    Just a terrible choice.

I doubt the thought ever even crossed Dusty's mind.

    I guess not.

But he's seen Bruce flail away during all of those 26 AB, I think.

What part of "utter futility" doesn't he understand?

BATTER AB	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	BB	SO	AVG	OBP	SLG	OPS
    Jay Bruce 26 1 0 0 0 0 0 13 .038 .038 .038 .077
Yeesh. Might be better for him to sit this one.

That has to be one of the worst batter vs pitcher splits of all current players with a minimum of 26 AB's. That's so bad it has to be a typo. Wow.

Reds need to rough Wandy up. You don't want to claw your way back to .500 only to start dropping back again. You would think Cueto and Latos would have the edge in the next two game though. Play Ball.

It seems like every game we're facing either a pitcher who is on fire or a pitcher who has owned us historically. Or in some cases, like today, both.
