Who will be the first $300MM man?

I was thinking about this last night - and couldnt help but wonder who will be the first $300MM player in MLB. Pujols, Votto, Fielder all pushing the $250MM mark, so I fully expect a $300MM contract within 3-5 years. Had Kemp not signed his 8yr $160MM contract, I would have pegged him to be the first.

That said, maybe if Bryce Harper pans out to be a legitimate superstar, he could be the first, but that discussion won't even begin until 2017/2018.

    Thoughts?

    -Matt

    Bryce Harper.

    Mike Trout as the darkhorse.

I don't think a $300m contract will happen until one of these guys reaches free agency. Trout is the darkhorse because the Angels won't have the $ to sign him early, so he'll hit the open market. Harper could sign with Washington before hitting free agency.

Or, if the Pujols, Ryan Howard (remember that contract starts this year) Fielder, and Votto contracts turn out to be disasters, people will wise up.

I can't believe its gotten to where it is now. They will eventually have to price themselves out of business.Of course I've been saying that for the last 20 years.

Not a chance. With a few exceptions, owners aren't willing to hand out contracts that will hurt their club financially.

Not with the massive TV deals teams are getting now.

Agree. Teams are almost willing to accept the last few years of the deal will be bad.

Harper. Stanton. Trout. Those are my guesses.

And they will be bad in every one of those cases.

I concur with the statement that of anyone known right now, Harper has the best chance.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

    Jay Bruce.
I have a love-hate relationship with Albert Pujols. Mostly hate.

Besides the obvious picks of Haper and Trout, Stanton came to my mind as well along with Jason Heyward if he can rebound from his sophomore slump.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
