    Wednesday 5/02/2012 Minor League Updates

Louisville and Durham are set to get under way here shortly. Jeff Francis vs. Jim Paduch. Three bats up and three bats down.

Phipps hit .216 in April and .170 in May last year according to the Bats' announcer.

    Leadoff triple for the Bulls.
Dorn staggers under a pop foul, falls and catches the ball on the seat of his pants. LOL.
Two-out double scores the runner. 1-0 Bulls.

Pensacola hosts the Generals of Jackson at 700 CDT. Last night the announcer said Pedro Villareal was set to go. MILB has it as 'to be determined'. It is SUPER HERO NIGHT at the old ballpark. Numerous Super Heroes will be roaming the park. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite Super Hero. You cannot beat fun at the old ballpark. Where's my Underdog costume?

That tutu happens to belong to Sweet Polly Purebred and dignity is overrated.

Bakersfield commences action at 715 PDT. It is Goodwill Wednesday and if fans bring a valid donation they can buy one ticket and get one free. Nice promotion. TBD will also be taking the ball for the Blaze.

Durham has been in this particular venue for 15 years and the Bulls have never finished lower than 2nd in the Southern Division of the IL. This park features a 32 wall, The Blue Monster, from the left field foul line out into left-center field.

Paduch perfect through two as Bats' bats continue to slumber.

JMO, but the worst play-by-play announcer in the Reds' organization is calling the games at the major league level. Cowboy.

That's either the dreaded double post or I feel very strongly about that.

With no outs in the second, Francis has allowed four hits. Three of them have gone for extra bases. Still Louisville trails just 1-0. Bulls leadoff batter is standing on second. Single puts runners on the corners with nobody out. Francis is facing seven lefties, and fooling none of them. RBI double down the line plates a second run. 2nd and 3rd. As the beating goes on. Grounder to first. 3-0. Sac fly to the base of the Blue Monster. 4-0. Felix Perez lays out on a sinking liner in left center to save extra bases. Sounded like a great play.

Rojas and Peacock in the lineup today. Three innings in the books and Bats are still looking for a base runner.

Bulls get a blooper over second for a leadoff single. Grounder to second hit too slowly to get the force. One down at first. Another grounder to Valaika for the second out, runner moves to third. Valaika ties a record with three assists in the inning as another ground ball ends up in his glove.
    4-0 after 3.

Durham has had a 13-game losing streak this season. Ouch.

Valaika is hit on an 0-2 pitch. Bats have a runner after the first ten were retired.

Bulls pitcher, Jim Paduch, was the Reds' minor league pitcher of the year waaayyy back in 2003. Supposedly pitched a no-hitter in the playoffs for Billings that season. That is all news to me. Joey Votto was on that club. He turned out okay. Calvin Medlock was too. I seem to recall he got a lot of RedsZone love for awhile.

I'm kind of interested to see how Rojas does in Louisville. He's always had a reputation as a tremendous defensive SS, but his time there has been reduced because of 1) Gregorius, 2) injuries, and 3) a lack of hitting. On the whole, his bat has been pretty impotent, but there have been short stretches when he held his own. I'm curious to see how he responds to the higher level of competition. (That said, there's little doubt that his promotion, to take Janish's place, was made only because they didn't want to rush Gregorius.) At the least, he'll get some ABs. He wasn't getting many at Pensacola.
