I agree with this. A closer needs to be able to overwhelm a batter, if necessary. Sean Marshall is not that guy. Great set up guy. Plus, frankly, Marshall looks like he doesn't have the calmest temperament under pressure.

Anyone who thinks that Baker is not a slave to the save rule, just watch this game. No reason to bring in Marshall. Chapman we dealing, and was still in the game. Worked out, but don't like that one bit.

    Marshall:

    15 K's, 3 BB's in 11 innings, 15.2% SS%

    Ondrusek

    11 K's, 6 BB's in 13 innings, 11.0% SS%

SeaRay makes a great point about making the switch but I find myself thinking you're right about Dusty sticking with Madson. Closers close to Dusty...even if it's obvious when they don't have the stuff on certain days.

Ninety-nine percent of today's managers would do the same thing. It's not just Baker when it comes to saves.

With as well as Chapman has been throwing, do you eventually start to leave him in those situations, esp if you are trying to stretch him out for the 2nd half of the season as a starter?

There were two men on when Cairo pinch hit for Chapman. I can understand wanting to try for an extra insurance run or two in that situation.

Didn't Cairo pinch hit for Chapman? Had Chapman's spot not been up I thought he would be back out there.

Nice to see we're not the only team that has idiot ABs. This place would melt down if Phillips ended a Reds rally like that

No, he wanted to tack on more runs (2 on, 2 out) so he pinch hit for Chapman with Cairo in the 9th. And prior to that, nobody was warming up. Chapman WAS going to go back out.

Didn't Chapman get pinch hit for in the top of the 9th? Also, it wasn't a meaningless pinch hit situation if I recall correctly, there were runners in scoring positions.
