I meant to exaggerate the "bang-bang" aspect of the play since so many posters are making the play sound routine and like a failure by Mesoraco that cost a run. I did not see the play that way at all.
Joey Votto doesn't get much help on called borderline strikes...ever.
I was always taught as an outfielder to either get the throw to the catcher in the air or give him a nice long hop. Bruce short hopped him there....with the velocity that the throw from Bruce has on it, that is a very difficult catch.
I don't blame Mes too much on that. A better throw by Bruce gets him easy.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......
April 28, 2006.
The problem with the play was the throw, not Mes' attempt to catch it and sweep tag in one motion.

Johnny Bench would have made that play
Bad offensive night for BP, yeesh.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
It seems like Phillips is constantly down 0-2 in every count. I have no confidence in him at the plate.
It's very apparent that Bruce needs to bat cleanup even against lefties. Put BP in the 2 hole where is more comfortable and maybe he can get some pitches he can hit.
Well that was ridiculous.
