The Reds scored five runs in the ninth inning off Andy McGaffigan and Randy St. Claire to erase a 9-5 deficit. Expos 1B Razor Shines made his final major-league appearance in this game.

The Reds had a pretty weak lineup in the 5-9 spots in the order. But 3B Buddy Bell and 1B Nick Esasky were both sidelined with injuries, and C Bo Diaz was getting a much-needed day off (Pete had been riding him like a racehorse in recent weeks). I think I would have considered Paul O'Neill at 1B and batting fifth to add more pop to the lineup, though.
