Is it out of the question for Beltran to play center and Allen Craig to play RF? Beltran seems healthy enough this year.

Regardless of where you play them, an OF of Holiday, Beltran and Craig stinks defensively.

Your best bet is likely Beltran in CF.

The injuries are catching up with Cards. Beltran, Holliday, Berkman, Freese and Furcal all have a history with staying healthy for a full season.

The Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 on Monday night at Busch Staduim, and on Tuesday starter Paul Maholm won't have to deal with slugger Carlos Beltran in the starting lineup. Beltran pinch hit in the ninth inning on Monday, and he is hitting .298/.406/.653 on the season with an NL-leading 13 home runs, but the team has been careful with him lately due to knee soreness.

Cardinals.com's Jenifer Langosch spoke with manager Mike Matheny, who said Beltran's knee is "barking," but the ailment is not considered serious. In any case, the Cubs are likely more than happy to avoid the reigning National League Player of the Week in the starting lineup for the second-straight game.

Actually, Holliday has been one of the best defensive LF in the game for the past couple of years. He had a down year last year but on a whole he has been great, compared to left fielders. He doesn't look pretty getting to balls but he does take pretty good jumps and generally gets the job done. Beltran is a massive upgrade defensively from Berkman in RF though.

I imagine after playing in Oakland and Denver, just about every outfield looks like a little league park to him.

If Beltran's knee is "barking" and needs days off then I'd think CF is the last place they'd put him. This sounds like our 1990s version of Eric Davis when we saw Billy Hatcher in CF and ED in left

Cue up umpteen Reds FO types circa 2006 saying, "No No, it's less stressful on Ken Griffey Jr.'s legs to play center than to play RF or LF because he doesn't have to start and stop as often."

Oddly enough it still sounds ridiculous.

Pretty big loss for the Cardinals. I guess if it was me, I'd play Robinson in CF as opposed to Craig.. Although with Beltran sore, both Robinson and Criag will get playing time.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Robinson has actually played well when he has got playing time. The only reason why they sent him down the other day was because they couldn't send down Greene, who was out of options.

You obviously follow the Cards closer than me, but I agree.. Robinson is definitely a good guy to be able to call up .. nice depth.

But who will help Madison and Hamilton draft the Federalist Papers?
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
