What our line-up should be based on 'The Book'

    1 - Ryan Hannigan
    2 - Joey Votto
    3 - Todd Frazier
    4 - Jay Bruce
    5 - Brandon Phillips
    6 - Zack Cozart
    7 - Chris Heisey
    8 - Pitcher
    9 - Drew Stubbs

Personally I really like it, but what do you guys think? I've always been of the opinion that your best hitter should be in the 2 hole, just because they will invariably see more at bats than the 3rd hitter over a year, but should also see more people on base than than the #1 hitter.

Putting Votto in the 3 hole is not good. The best hitters on the team should be 1, 2 and 4.

You know you're among the elite batters when they pencil you in right under the pitcher on the lineup card.

Hopefully with a letter from Bob/Walt/Dusty in his locker:

    Dearest Drew,

Every time you strike out 2 or more times in a game, we're batting you below the pitcher for the next 5 games.

    Signed,

Quit Swinging and Missing at Garbage Because You Think You Are a Power Hitter

Or maybe just a quote from the great Lou Brown:

"Drew, you may run like Mays, but you hit like s**t."

Batting Stubbs ninth makes tons of sense.

It removes him from the leadoff spot which guarantees him one less AB a game to strike out.

After the first inning it puts him hitting in front of Votto which is what Dusty has said is his preference.

When he does get on, there's a good chance Votto will bat while he's on base.

When he does get on, he can cause the LO batter to get more fastballs due to the base stealing threat.

He does have some pop in his bat so he can drive in the runner the pitcher has moved over with a sacrifice.

His batting averages when batting first .094, when batting in the first inning .185, runner at first .136

Still would love to trade him in some package for the Indians Michael Brantley.

You are the only person thus far to post my ideal line up. The four best hitters on this team finally get to bat consecutively and at the top of the line up - the flavors of the month all fight for the fifth spot down.

Either way, I'd love to see Dusty try this or the OP's lineup for a few games.

I am all for it. I would switch Frazier and BP since I don't think Frazier has enough PAs to judge his ability yet. But otherwise

The "book" may be great, but there are few teams that do or ever will go against the grain on that three slot. I see the argument on stats alone that Hanigan could leadoff based on OBP, but that high number (I believe) is more a factor of him hitting 8th than an unreal ability to draw walks.
