A minor league baseball player and umpire in town for an all-star game became robbery victims, according to Winston-Salem police.

The robberies happened between 12:35 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. Tuesday in the area of West Fifth Street and North Trade Street.

Police said two men, one of which was armed with a handgun, approached the victims in separate incidents just minutes apart.

Billy Hamilton, a Carolina League all-star playing in Tuesday night’s game at BB&T Ballpark, was with another man when he was robbed, police said.

Glad to hear he is safe. There is an easy joke here about all the stealing that Hamilton does, but I don't want to be insensitive.
