Votto "Determined to be Great" (ESPN)

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/92...termined-great
"What I took away from Pete's advice is, 'You're playing for yourself. You're competing for your team. You're doing the best you can every day to get the most out of your abilities.' So when I have that at-bat when the score is 10-0, yeah, I usually check in with myself and make sure I'm in a prime place to hit and I'm ready to go and I'm not about to give away this at-bat. I'll take my time before the at-bat or call timeout so there's no excuses and nothing I can look back and regret."
Nice fluff piece on Votto from the WWL.

One thing is for sure -- Votto has one of those personalities that people love to write and read about. So pensive and brooding and intense and focused. The Don Draper of MLB.

And yes, I know, Jon Hamm is a Cards fan. But I think I would cast him as Votto in the Reds movie.

    Fabulous article!
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

But if only we had someone that could play the role of Homer Bailey in said movie. I'm not sure who could pull that look off

Terrific article. I loved the insight of the thought process of Choo, Votto, Rose. Funny, when I played I always wanted another hit after one , two, or three already on record. Unfortunately, I didn't have the swing that those three guys have.

A couple of years ago, a guy came by my booth while I was working a professional Tennis Tournament and he said to me something like this: " I see you here every year aned you always seem to sell a lot of people on Marriott. How do you set a goal as to how many sales you have each time you come here or go to another event?" I said to him, "The only number that's important to me is 1". He replied, you mean to tell me that your only goal is one sale?" I answered, "No, my goal is 'one more sale than I have right now---I always want one more."

I see a similar phillosphy here. The driven always want more. And I understand that and applaud that approach.

The sad part is that at some point Votto will slump again, and when he does there will be a lot of people on here saying they're worried/concerned about him again.
