    Some interesting statistics:

Here are the percentages of runs scored by inning for 2010 and 2012. Sorry for the misalignment.

    Inning 2010 2012
    1 12.3 15.1
    2 10.3 3.6
    3 10.8 6.8
    4 12.3 16.7
    5 10.0 10.4
    6 10.6 8.3
    7 12.3 14.6
    8 13.3 10.4
    9 6.3 12.0

If you look, most runs are scored in the 1st, 4th, and 7th innings. This, more times than not, is when the top of the batting order is at the plate (obviously in the 1st, but especially in the 4th). Looks to me that the 1-4 spots aren't getting the help they were getting in 2010, when the runs scored were spread out much more evenly. According to these numbers, the leadoff batters are the ones getting it done and the bigger concern IMO is offensive help from the rest of the team, considering only 3.6% of the Red's runs scored this season come from batters after the leadoff 3. (this comes out to about a run being scored in the 2nd inning once every 7 games)
There are only two seasons - Winter and Baseball.

Another scary stat: Joey Votto is on pace to lead off an inning 150 times this year. When your best hitter with RISP is leading off that often, he's being wasted.
"I talked to an advance scout that told me if Joey Votto and Albert Pujols were on the same team he'd advise his team to do the unthinkable...pitch around Votto to get to Pujols." - Buster Olney, ESPN
