I believe the most encouraging part of Billy's 2012 season is his improved batting eye. Last year, Billy only walked 8.5% of the times he came to the plate; his career high walk rate was 8.9% in rookie ball in 2010.

In 2012, Billy has now walked 10.5% of the time.

He has also put the ball in play much more frequently in 2012 with his K rate at 16.7% this year, down from 21.8% last year, 17.7% in 2010 and 26.6% in 2009.

With his .388 BABIP in 2012 (which was the same in 2010), you really want Billy to put the ball in play so he can beat out those weak grounders.

Billy will be a fantasy baseball stud when he arrives, no doubt, but he should also be a valuable lead-off man if he can keep walking at a double digit pace and keep the K rate down.

That is the hope. If he can walk 10% of the time and strike out in that 15-16% range, he could be a solid offensive player. If he deviates from those two ranges, things begin to get questionable because of his lack of power and the expected drop in BABIP at the MLB level.

His big challenge will be AA when the pitching becomes a lot better. If his walk rate shows an improvement or stays the same next year in AA, then it's only a matter of time till he's in a Reds uniform.

Also it looks like he's breaking out of his slump he was in this past month.

I'm a big skeptic on the walks. I don't see any way that big league pitchers will allow this guy to walk. He's not going to burn them with Home Runs if they put it over the plate. With his baserunning, walking him would be a bigger sin than walking the pitcher.

Willy T walked over 10% of the time in A Ball too. Hamilton needs to hit IMO. Personally, I'd be dealing him for what the Reds need at the big league level.
