Neither am I. It sounds like a typical High School boy to me. I guess he should have worn his horn rimmed glasses and lab coat to the interview.

Why is IQ important? You can't teach "99"...
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner

    I am.

He just didn't come off as particularly bright, especially in comparison to some of the other HS players (ie Giolito and Fried). Nothing wrong with that, but that was just my perception.

Blue Jays take D.J. Davis at 17- a HS CF from Mississippi.

I knew in a weak draft year the Reds would surprise us

To be fair, it was a very scripted interview that lasted about fifteen seconds. I don't think it is fair to the newest (potential) member of the Reds to assume that he isn't smart as a result of those fifteen seconds.

We've had some pretty good success with the late helium guys in the past (Jay Bruce, Devin Mesoraco).

To be clear, I'm certainly willing to be patient and give the Reds the benefit of the doubt on this- they've definitely earned it. I am by no means down on the pick, but I would've preferred Giolito.

With the Reds scouting department track record recently, I'm inclined to trust their judgement and be happy with this pick. They certainly know a hell of a lot more than the zero I know about amateur baseball players. I'll try and take the glass half full approach and think that the Reds might have a future ace on their hands if he picks up the offspeed stuff well in the next few years.

Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

This is from a link provided earlier about Trevioso (sp?)

"He's a piece of clay," an area scout said late in May. "He used to be just all fastballs, but now he's learning to use his secondary stuff, and he's learning how to repeat his delivery.
If he's as coachable as this implies, I'll be very happy.

Does he throw 99? Because the highlight video they just showed said he had a 94-95 fastball. Which is it?
