Looks like Buckley thinks he has some knowledge of Travieso that the rest of baseball didn't:

The Reds are very familiar with Travieso. He played on the same high school team Tony Arias’ son Nicolas. Arias is the Reds’ director of Latin American scouting.

“Sometimes, you feel like you have a little advantage when you have that kind of information,” Buckley said. “We’re hoping we knew some things others didn’t.”

“We’ve been watching him for years,” Buckley said.

This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Of course Clemens was almost exactly the same thing. He hadn't physically matured and wasn't a fulltime starter until he was a senior in HS.

It wouldn't be a draft at RZ without BD freaking out over the picks

I am starting to think someone on the Nationals made a deal with the devil. They have the number one pick back to back years and get the best pitching prospect in the last 25 years, followed by the best hitting prospect in the last 25 years. Last year they pick #6 and have the best hitting prospect fall into their lap and this year at #16 the pitcher with the highest upside. It really is amazing.

Whaaaaa? I've loved the picks the last few years. Just this year took me by surprise. Last time I was upset was Stubbs instead of Lincecum.

Being in Washington, surely you can develop a conspiracy theory involving the President, Congress and the Supreme Court.

Listen man, I don't want McNamee to have to get involved here though.

    (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

And, IIRC, only the Reds drafted Bench as a catcher, everyone else had him listed as a pitcher.

Perhaps I have you mixed up with someone else, but I'm recalling you giving Buckley grief every year over his picks and overall draft philosophy. If that's not you, I apologize, just going from memory.

Braves take a Georgia high school pitcher, Lucas Sims, at 21. Natch.

Sims is a nice pick for the Braves.

Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 1)

I'm liking the pick a little more as I read more on Nick. The optimist in me says a diamond in the rough, little wear and tear on his arm. It appears he has a willingness to listen and learn in his development of a down breaking slider.

Question is as a high school arm signed with the U of Miami will he sign easily? Time will tell but a strong arm with a repeatable delivery is a good start.

Not 100% sold but he has potential.

    Classic Braves:

"Atlanta selects ____ , (position) from (insert high school), Georgia."
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......
