Interesting sidenote - he's from LaVerne CA and went to Bonita High School where Ewell Blackwell also went to high school. Their mascot, by the way, is the Bearcat.

i love his swing.. also reading the articles. sounds like he has a great work ethic.. Thats a huge plus and hope he moves fast thru the organization
Sounds like he can play defense too, which is a must with GABP.
He hit .372, good for 2nd in the Pac 10, you have to respect that.
Captain of the UCLA team as well, and I'm impressed with how well he speaks. I can't imagine what I would have sounded like had someone shoved a microphone in front of my face at age 21 or 22.
Looks like a good get...
Where do you think he starts Billings or Dayton?
I think there's a pretty good chance that Gelalichis the first one to reach the bigs from this class (if it's not one of the college relievers).
I like his contact and his willingness to take a walk. Seems to have decent linedrive power to all fields and while he may never hit 25-40 home runs a season think he could provide a solid 12-15 (maybe even a few more cocasionally). He may nont even profile as a longterm starter, but I could see him being a decent LH'd reserve OF with solid D and some pop off the bench. That's not a bad thing, this year's squad could surely use some one fitting that description.
As an advanced college hitter drafted in the first round, I would think/hope he at least starts in Dayton. With Yorman likely headed there soon, I wouldn't completely rule out Bakersfield (assuming the Dayton OF is full with Waldrop, Yorman and Buckley). The last two college hitters drafted in the first or sandwich round started in A+ IIRC (Alonso and Grandal).
I'd be fine wig he starts in Dayton or Bakersfield. I'd be disappointed if he starts in Billings.
Go BLUE!!!
Me personally I'd expect Billings.
I'd expect Billings to start, but I could see him getting a promotion to Dayton within a week or two if he gets off to a good start.

Gelalich was named to Baseball America's First Team College All-American team. Impressive.

Now let's get him signed and playing (for Dayton? Bakersfield?)
Go BLUE!!!
With what Dayton has this year you shouldn't have to think twice where to send him. DAYTON DAYTON DAYTON and fast.
