If there was ever any inning where the lack of protection for Votto/Bruce showed up, that was it.

Swung at two balls, and watched a strike down the middle. Awesome plate discipline.
He gave up and decided he was going to swing no matter what. Stubbs, Cozart do the same thing.

It just trickles down. Like this is no big deal. Like wasting games against inferior teams is OK.
He didn't really swing at that first one. He turned his body and the ball ran in on him and hit the bat. But that last swing was pathetic. And the called strike was down the pike.
