St. Louis went ahead and drafted Matheny's son even though he asked them not to.

And someone said you can offer up to $100k without it coming out of your slotted allotment, right?

11-40 are equal as far as money. All on the same financial footing as per signing

ANALYSIS: In three years at the University of San Francisco, Remer has played a bigger role with each season. He appeared in 24 games––making four starts––this year, going 3-2 with four saves and a 3.67 ERA. Remer walked 40 batters in 49 innings, but he yielded only 28 hits and struck out 60. As a junior, he'll have
BA had him as the 13th best prospect in the WCC, a fairly high honor. Their write-up included a very nice report on Remer.

Remer generates good movement from a high slot on an 88-91 mph fastball that bumps 94, and he mixes in a pair of solid secondary offerings.
Sounds like the type of guy who may surprise. Can't seem to find the plate with regularity, though. Someone to watch.

    From Houston coach, Todd Whitting:

AVAIN RACHAL - INF - CYPRESS, TEXAS - CY-FAIR HIGH SCHOOL
"Avain is a kid that plays hard every time we have seen him play and really swings the bat. Avain plays for longtime coach Woody Champagne at Cy-Fair High School and is the cousin of UH associate head basketball coach Alvin Brooks."

Avain can play multiple positions and his get after it approach will fit right into our program."

Again, according to Perfect Game, Rankin throws 88 (but the last time they checked on him was 2010, so that may have changed). From their 2010 report:

    Report
Daniel Rankin is a 2012 RHP/SS/3B with a 6'1'', 150 lb. frame from Katy, TX who attends Second Baptist. Slender young build, good pitchers body, high waist. Pitches with a Hi 3/4 arm slot, long arm action, lower effort, some armside run FB, extended release, 12/6 CB, lots of swings and misses on CB, solid pitchability. Hits with a closed stance, rotational swing, contact approach. Named to Top Prospect Team, very good student.

" was captain of the baseball and bowling teams…was division two state bowling champion… "

The Saunders pick must have been a favor to Brandon Phillips. Somebody to bowl with.

The most they can give him is $100,000 anyway without it coming out of your 1-10 allotment.
