Villareal sets them down in order in the second. On the first pitch the Syracuse hitter drive a deep fly to left center that Gathright broke very badly on, luckily the left fielder came over and saved him with a nice catch. Villareal cruising.

Daniel Corcino gets ready to aim and fire for the Blue Wahoos tonight. Need a bounceback start from Corcino who was not too effective last time out.

Ever notice how often a player who makes a crappy play in the field leads off the next inning? Gathright goes down swinging to start the third.

doubleheader for Bats so its just a 7 inning game. Vilareal gets hitter 2, 1-3 on a barehanded grab and throw. Then Gathright nabs a lazy fly for 1-2-3.

2 flyballs and then Felix Perez watches a fastball chug right down the pike for strike three...my what a pretty pitch! End of three 0-0

Villareal battles the first hitter Hofhaeur and finally gets him when Perez makes a sliding catch of a flyball in foul territory - nice play for the first out.
Former big leaguer Mark Teahen singles just to right of second
Perez grabs a fly to left for the second out
Ted Power visits the mound with Xavier Paul up to bat (7for 14 vs the Bats)
Villareal gets him to first unassisted.
Pedro working in and out, up and down mixing it up, really looking good.

Top 5 lets see if the Bats can live up to their nickname:
Corky walks to lead off the inning
Miguel Rojas slashes a single in right, fielder bobbles, Miller goes to third, Rojas has to hold.
first and third no outs and Villareal up
bunts foul. offers and misses. offers and misses K. 1 down.
Gathright up. big swing and miss. ball, ball. Grounder to 2nd Gathright safe at first on DP attempt but the umps call interference on runner at second and DP. No score.
Umps say the runner hit the second baseman's throw as he slid in.

Bad call imo. The second baseman never got a throw off. ah well.
    Bottom 5 0-0

Carroll leads off with a double over Gathright's head off the wall in center. That fastball was up and scorched.
Now Rivero scorches a first pitch single and its first and third no outs.
First pitch flyball to Gathright, runner scores. 1-0 Chiefs. Suddenly they are hitting Pedro
    1 down man on first
grounder to short, force at second, runner beats the relay safe at first. 2 outs
leadoff hitter Corey Brown up - grounds it Soto who tags first. Top of 6
    1-0 Chiefs

Harris leads off with a single
    Fly to right. 1 down
Dorn singles to right and Harris flies around to third.
Puckett 11 pitches curveball strikeout. 2 down
    Syracuse going to the pen.
Perez singles into the pen in right, 1 run scores but Dorn is duck dead trying to score from first. I don't know what Danny was thinking there. He was out by 20 feet.
Going to the bottom of the 6th score tied 1-1.

Miller leads off for the Bats. Remember this is the 9th inning for all purposes - the game is scheduled for 7.
Miller walks. Peacock pinch runs for him.
Rojas bunts perfectly. 1-3 sacrifice. Peacock to 2nd.
Rhinehart batting for Villareal. Grounds it down 1stbase line 3-1. Peacock goes to 3rd. 2 down.
Gathright up. Wide open stance one foot way out in front and to left. Grounds out 4-3.

Still tied 1-1. Bottom of 7th coming up.
