Drew Hayes hurled a scoreless 8th. Three flies. One each to left, center and right. LaMarre with his third hit of the night to start the 8th. One out later Brodie Greene reaches on an error. Runners on second and third with one out, trailing 2-0.

Visalia Landlubbers enter the Shark Tank tonight. This one isn't gonna end up well for them.

Three up and three down for Visalia in the first.
Six up and six down for Mr. Rogers.

A Josh Fellhauer sac fly cuts the deficit in half. 2-1. Two outs. Runner in scoring position. Greene is left stranded. Drew Hayes strikes out the side in the top of the ninth around a single.
Wahoos batting in the bottom of the ninth, needing one to tie and two for the walk-off.
David Vidal grounds out but Stephen Hunt draws a one-out walk and the Blue Fish are in business.
Mark Fleury comes up empty and Pensacola is down to its final out.
    Yordanys Perez hitting for Hayes.
Ryan LaMarre, with three hits already for the evening, stands in the on-deck circle.
No joy in Mudville as Might Yordanys has struck out.

Chad Rogers 7.2 innings of one-run baseball, giving up just three hits and walking noone. He struck out four. The only blemish was a solo shot in the 8th.
Billy Hamilton was one for three with two walks. He stole 4 bases (67). Travis Mattair was 2 for 2 with a couple of free passes. Dominic D'Anna went yard.
    Bakersfield prevails 5-1.

Bakersfield has the best record in the California League and lead the Northern Division. They are 34-25 and are 8-2 in their last ten games. San Jose has taken a nosedive, losing 9 of 10.

Rogers has done nothing but pitch well, both in the pen and as a starter. He's a year too old for High A, but his numbers are outstanding. Good career K/IP (8.0), great control this season, very good BAA both this year and for his career (.222).

Interesting to see if he moves to AA at the halfway point of the season or is moved up due to signings.

Very impressed with Rogers this year. I think he may have emerged as a legit SP prospect. I watched him some on MILB TV and was impressed. He may need something a little off-speed to complement his fastball/slider, but he definitely showed nice velocity, movement and command with his prime artillery. Put him with those 4 guys in Pensacola and I think you may have a legit "next wave" of starters out of which more than 1 guy may ultimately fit in a big-league rotation. The timing sets up nicely in re: the current Reds group.

I'd be interested to see what he can do as the fifth member of that Pensacola rotation before I'm ready to proclaim him as a legit SP prospect. If he can hold his own as a member of that rotation, I'll be impressed. At this point, however, I still have Jacob Johnson rated slightly higher (better frame, year younger, more upside).

I wonder when the last time was a team had their five best starting pitching prospects all in the same minor league rotation?

That's fine. For me, Rogers is well ahead of Johnson.

This year the Blaze have played 59 games, Hamilton has appeared in 56 and has 67 SB. Last year on the same date Dayton had played 57 games and Hamilton had 45 steals. After 59 games he had 48 steals, but I don't know how many game Hamilton had actually played in.

Billy Hamilton is on pace for 159 steals. The all-time record, as far as I could ascertain, is 145 held by Vince Coleman. Unless someone knows of a higher number that is what Hamilton is shooting for.
Amazingly, Bakersfield, as a team, is just barely ahead of Lake Elsinore in the stolen base category - 116 to 108.

Wait a minute ... did I wander into a Reds' game thread by accident?
