Hendrick (who had been the Reds regular 1B in 1931) had, in essence, been acquired from the Cardinals in a trade for 1B Mickey Heath following the doubleheader on June 5, though technically the Reds had purchased Hendrick's contract from the Cardinals and simultaneously sold Heath's contract to the Cards in a separate transaction.
