Tragedy @ Auburn: Fatal shootings involving students

    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/nationa...%20%20National

AUBURN, Ala. -- Three people were killed and two others seriously injured following a shooting at an Auburn University off-campus housing complex late Saturday, with football players feared among the victims.
This stuff just doesn't happen in Auburn. This is very sad and senseless. My prayers and thoughts to the families of all involved.

The Auburn plainsman has unofficially tweeted the names of the football players that were apparently among the victims:

Here's a very, very unofficial account of what MAY have happened as posted by someone on Auburn Undercover who claims to live in the apartment complex and to have personal relationships with several of the players (again-consider the source):

Okay guys.. I actually live in the apartment complex where the shooting occurred. Right now, I have heard five people have been shot. Ed Christian is dead. LaDarious Phillips was shot and Eric Mack was shot in the hip. 2 others were non football players and were just there. The police are still out in the front gathering information. I talked to Anthony Swain about this. I played basketball with them all the time at the apartment complex. Ed was a great guy and always laughing. DeAngelo Benton was at the scene of the crime also. WDE! Thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and the Auburn Family!!
He followed up with this post:

I have been told by swain that De Lo (Deangelo benton) was talking to some girl was dating some other guy that was there and that approached benton. benton backed off and was just being friendly to the girl. the guys friend started talking smack and was running his mouth and benton kinda stood strong and wasnt going to let some guy talk to him like that. swain said he backed benton off and told him if we get into something then we were going to get into trouble and kicked off. they backed off and were walking away and swain said he heard multiple gun shots (like 10 or 11 and i have been told it was a 9mm). he said they ran and took off and that he didnt see the shooter. everybody fled except the people who got shot. I have now been told ladarious has been pronounced dead..
Importantly there has been no word as to whether the shooter/shooters are in police custody.

It appears the Auburn police department will hold an official press conference @ 11am

Wow. That is just unspeakably awful. The loss of young lives over something so trivial in the grand scheme of things. What kind of coward pulls a gun on a group of unsuspecting and unarmed people? I really wish the perception of using a gun being something a tough guy does was tempered by the reality that only a coward would do something like this.

University Heights is a nice apartment complex located just south of campus. Apparently it was a low key gathering at the clubhouse to watch the nba playoffs and boxing.

Wow, this is terrible and senseless. Lives are over, and most likely for something completely pointless. Not sure how, but we have get guns out of the hands of these people.

Phillip Marshall, a reporter that extensively covers Auburn athletics has provided this update:

I can confirm now what is widely known. Former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips were killed last night in a shooting at University Heights Apartments in Auburn. Current player Eric Mack was wounded but is in no danger.

The shooting apparently came after an argument and then a fight. The argument apparently did not involve any of the three victims, who were apparently killed when one of the men involved in the fight returned and began firing indiscriminately.
It appears that there was a fight and the gunman came back and just started firing at anyone still left at the party.

According to Auburn police a third person has died (Demario Pitts, auburn resident) and a fourth has been airlifted to UAB medical center with a gunshot wound to the head (Xavier Moss, Auburn resident). Chief Dawson was adamant that apparently this had no connection to Auburn athletics other than some of the victims were associated with the football program ( only Mack was a current membr). Chief Dawson reiterated all victims should be considered innocent victims.

Desmonte Leonard of Montgomery (no afiliation with the university) has been identified as the suspect and has three Capitol murder warrants issued for his arrest relating to these shootings. He is considered armed and dangerous and is currently being targeted by US Marshalls and the FBI.

Apparently Pitts (deceased) and Vines ( both Auburn residents) got into a fight with Leonard (shooter) and another friend, both Montgomery residents, over a girl. Leonard came back with a gun and started shooting at Pitts also hitting several other people (6 in all).

I don't think there is a person involved over 22 years old. It's crazy to even contemplate.
