If there's any pitcher on this staff that could use the confidence boost, it's Latos. He got stung by that blown save last time out IIRC. He's also had problems going deep into games thus far.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

IMO, whenever you NEED to. Not just when you CAN. I think relievers get used too often.

    Votto singles to left.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Votto sees two pitches from this pitcher, gets fooled on one, and then owns him.

I just LOVE having this guy on my favorite team. WOW!
Sabermetrics can be boiled down to this simple truism: A batter's goal is to extend the inning. Extend enough innings and you're going to score runs. Extend more innings than your opponent and you're going to score more runs than him.

Yeah, but sometimes you give a guy confidence by taking him out after he's already got a solid performance in the bank. If the lead was more than 1, I'd have no problem with sending him back for the eighth until a guy reached base.

Remember you said that. *grin* I'm pretty sure it's more than 1 now. :O)

Fair point btw. Every guy is different, and they need different types of motivation. I'll trust Dusty on knowing his players.

Now that the variables have changed, I'm fine with letting Latos go back out for 1 more...no baserunners though.

Does that have to just completely tick off Indians fans everytime they see Brandon do this?
