    Horner gave him some good protection for a few years, but you're joking about the others, right? Murphy's biggest problem was that the last half of his career covered the beginning of the steroids' era, so that his numbers seem miniscule compared with others from '87 and on. People forget that it was 1985, or 1986 where only one or two players in the National League finished the season with a Slugging over .500, with Daryl Strawberry being one of them, and that was only about .502 or something. The game really became manipulated towards the homerun beginning in 1987.

    When it comes to "Defense", I trust someone's eyes over any kind of stat anyone can come up with. Your eyes are worth everything. One can spot a great fielder in seconds. You don't have to watch him very long.
