    Billings Mustangs Celebrate 60th Season

Beginning play as a Class C level Pioneer League team in 1948, the Mustangs now are playing their 60th season (there were a handful of years in the early 60's when Billings didn't have a team). Now in the Rookie Level short-season Pioneer League, they've been the Reds affiliate since 1974.

Here is the first season with the Reds

The best record the club had was the 1978 season with a .735 clip, record of 50-18. [Kudos to Doug for catching my error on this]

And the 1995 season wasn't too shabby either; 49-20 (.710).

Here's the entire history of the Billings Mustangs rosters:

I am no Frank Einstein, but I am pretty sure 49-20 is better than 48-20.

Clearly you've found that I'm no Einstein at all! I've corrected my OP with a hat tip to you for the catch (not even a shoestring one, plain old can of corn variety). The '78 team went 50-18 - really an extraordinary season for any ballclub.

Gary Redus and his .462 season. What a wasted talent...
