    Ben Klimesh

Bennett goes by Ben, here's a bit about where his season has been as he neared the school record for strikeouts.

    Re: Ben Klimesh

John Sickels had Ben Klimesh as one of his five sleepers for the entire draft:

Ben Klimesh, RHP, Trinity University (Texas): Another strong statistical performer (13-3, 1.71, 154/40 K/BB in 111 innings, just 77 hits allowed), Klimesh is a senior, has a 6-3, 200 pound pitcher body, works at 90-95 MPH, and has a decent curve and changeup. He could use sharper command and the level of competition is a factor, but he's affordable and has a live arm. Someone should grab him before the 10th round given the new rules in place.

    Re: Ben Klimesh

This year's mantra, with the new CBA, is signability. As your report from Sickel's piece indicates, that's going to mean college seniors, in particular, but also players who really just want to get on with their pro careers. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

This said, though, it looks as if the club has done their home work. I've seen hardly anyone that doesn't have some upside. And that's knowing that drafting players is an absolute crapshoot - do even 1% ultimately make it overall?

    Re: Ben Klimesh

Add Klimesh to the players the Reds drafted that look really, really good. Decent curve and change already with a fastball between 90-95? That's a starter in progress right there. He appears to miss bats, too, fairly unhittable which I always like. Since his stuff isn't overwhelming it's a fair indication he has good movement and some idea of how to pitch although it is probably a bit of an indictment of the league he played in, too.

And here's a great interview in which it sounds like he's going to sign (foul language warning): http://chicago.sbnation.com/chicago-...ound-interview

The second one is an interesting read. First, we got to see what the "on the ground" situation looked like with, at least, this draft pick ("will you sign for this?"). Also, it makes you wonder, when they skipped over him in the 14th, whether they didn't expect Moran to be there, so they grabbed before coming back to Klimesh in the next round. It will be interesting to see what they have with them.
